Parida wins all Odisha open chess title

Local favourite Manas Ranjan Parida won the title in the 1st Umesh Mishra All Odisha Open Chess Tournament, which concluded at Secretariat Recreation Club here today. Top seed Parida edged out Santosh Kumar Sinha on Buchholtz tie-break method after both the players tied for the top spot with 6.5 points each from a possible seven.

Altogether 61 players from seven districts participated in the two-day and seven-round tournament, which was organised by Chess Association of Odisha (CAO). Eminent singer Pranab Pattnaik handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function.
