Odisha finished runners-up, losing to Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy in the final of the 1st Hockey India Junior National Women Championship at Motilal Nehru Sports Complex in Sonepat (Haryana) today. The outcome of Odisha’s semifinal match was not known.
Earlier, Odisha pulverised Delhi 12-0 to storm into the semifinals. Eline Lakra led the scoring with four goals, Namita Toppo and Punam Barla struck twice each, while captain Anupa Barla, Reshma Lakra, Divya Kerketta and Sarojini Ekka contributed one goal each.
In their three pool league matches, Odisha mauled Tripura 16-0 (Preetimala Dung Dung and Sarojini Ekka 3 each; Reshma Lakra (Jr) 2; Punam Barla, Anupa Barla, Eline Lakra, Susmita Kujur, Rajkumari Ekka, Reshma Lakra (Sr), Dibya Kerketta and Amita Ekka one each); Uttarakhand 20-0 (Anupa Barla and Punam Barla 7 each; Elin Lakra and Reshma Lakra (Jr) 3 each) and Rajasthan 14-1 (Anupa Barla and Punam Barla 3 each; Elin Lakra, Reshma Lakra (Jr), Dulari Kandulana Namita Toppo 2 each).
