Manish Sharma of Chakradharpur won the title in the 1st Barbil Open Chess Tournament, which concluded at Boys` Club in Barbil today. Second seed Sharma secured 8.5 points from nine rounds to bag the top prize of Rs 51,000.
Sanjay Kumar Dash (7.5) of Balasore became runner-up and took home Rs 21,000. Sanjiban Nayak (7) of Bhubaneswar finished third. The three-day tournament was organized by Barbil Chess Association.
Barbil Tehsildar Pradip Kumar Khilar, Rungta Mines CGM Ramu Agarwal and Senior Manager Lalit Narayan Rout gave away the trophy and prizes at the closing function.
