Birsa Munda Vidyapeeth (BMV), Rourkela bagged a double by winning titles in both junior boys and girls categories of the State Level Inter-School Hockey Tournament, which conclude here at Panposh Sports Hostel (PSH) in Rourkela today.
In the junior boys’ final BMV beat Town High School (THS), Sundargarh 2-1 with Nitin Mukesh Tigga and Prakash Barla scoring for BMV and Kuldeep Kullu for THS. A 21st minute strike by Alima Minz helped BMV get the better of THS 1-0 in the junior girls’ summit clash.
THS compensated their defeat in junior sections by winning the title in the sub-junior boys’ category, defeating BMV 3-1 in the final. Sudhir Kujur scored a brace for THS and his teammate Sanjay Xalxo contributed one. Amit Chirmako reduced the margin for BMV.
The three champion teams qualified to represent Odisha in the All India Nehru Cup Hockey Tournament to be held in New Delhi next month. The entire BMV team comprised players from PSH, while the all the players of THS belonged to Sports Hostel, Sundargarh. Altogether 16 teams participated in the two-day state-level tournament.
