Bhubaneswar boy Vikash Verma and Santosh Kumar Patra of Puri were adjuged as the best judokas of the State Open Judo Championship, which was held at Bhanja Kalamandap Judo Hall in Bhubaneswar today. Host Bhubaneswar emerged team champions, while Orissa Judo School finished runners-up. Altogether 320 judokas from 14 districts vied for honours in sub-junior, junior and senior categories.
Sports Minister Praveen Chandra Bhanjadeo gave away the prizes in the presence of Orissa State Judo Association president Priyabrata Patnaik and secretary Gitanjali Panda. A 18-member state squad, including eight girls was announced for participation in the National Sub-junior Judo Championship to be held at Bhilai (Chhattishgarh) from August 12 to 16.
Sub-junior squad:
Boys: Bisu Mohanta, Deepak Sharma, Vishal Verma, Bighnaraj Bag, Shankar Das, Vishal Yadav, Muna Das, Amar Kumar Nayak, Nitin Kumar, Bulu Mahari.
Girls: Rinki Pradhan, Subhalaxmi Jena, Sujata Sahoo, Rashmita Das, Pinky Pradhan, Sulata Jena, Niharika Das, Niharika Kar.
Officials: Kandan Murmu, Gitanjali Panda, Firoj Baliarsingh, Deepankar Das, Sradhanjali Jena.
