Orissa women win cricket series against Assam

Woman cricketers of Orissa gained good experience by playing a four-match frinedly series against Assam and winning it as well. The series, comprising three one-day and one Twenty20 matches was played at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack from May 7 to 11.

Host Orissa won the one-day series 2-1 and T-20 match by nine wickets. Kadambini Mahakud was the most successful Orissa player, scoring 48 and 57 in the first and third one-day match. She also starred in the T-20 win, hitting an unbeaten 52.

Debika Sathe crackedd 39 and 82 in the first two one-dayers  to prove herself the star performer of Assam. The absence of
Kadambini and Debika in the second and third match respectively made the difference between victory and defeat.

First one-dayer (May 7): Orissa 149/10 in 48.4 overs Kadambini Mahakud 48, Ankita Das 20; MC Chanu 3/32, Mahua Sarkar 2/13, Ritu Dhrub 2/17) beat Assam 144/10 in 47.5 overs (Debika Sathe 39, Suchitra Singh 29, Mahua Sarkar 24, MC Chanu 20) by 5 runs.

Second one-dayer (May 8): Assam 198/8 in 50 overs (Debika Sathe 82, Ritu Dhrub 26, Suchitra Singh 26; Sujata Mallick 2/31) beat Orissa 155/9 in 50 overs (Sweta Samantaray 40, Subhalaxmi Das 23; Jyoti Sharma 2/24, Monika Das 2/29) by 43 runs.

Third one-dayer (May 10): Orissa 195/8 in 50 overs (Kadambini Mahakud 57, Sucheta Mohanty 26, Madhuri Mehera 26; Ritu Dhrub 4/36) beat Assam 151/10 in 43 overs (Rajan Basnet 35, Jyoti Sharma 33; Ritu Singh 3/19, Sarita Meher 2/15, Madhusmita Behera 2/25) by 44 runs.

Twenty20 match (May 11): Assam 78/5 in 20 overs (Ritu Dhrub 22, Suchitra Singh 21 n.o) lost to Orissa 81/1 in 15.5 overs (Kadambini Mahakud 52 n.o, Sucheta Mohanty 23 n.o) by 9 wkts.
