Siba Sankar Parida secured ‘C’ grade in International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level-I (AITA Level-III) coaches course held at CLTA Tennis Stadium in Chandigarh earlier last month. According to the results announced by All India Tennis Association (AITA) website aitatennis.com earlier this week, by securing the ‘C’ grade in the week-long course, Parida has become eligible to get the certificate as Foundation Coach.
As many as 25 coaches from nine states participated in the course, which was conducted by Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) with Gary O’Brien and Gajendra Singh as tutors. Among the candidates, four secured ‘A’ grade, three ‘B’ grade and five ‘C’ grade.
These 12 became eligible to receive the certificate as Foundation Coach. According to the results, seven candidates qualified as Elementary Coaches by securing ‘D’ grade, while the remaining five were asked to appear re-test.
Twenty-nine-year-old Parida took up coaching in 2005 after playing competitive tennis at the state level for four years. He worked as an assistant coach in city-based Gurukul Tennis Academy for two years and in Ace-base Tennis Resort for over a year before deciding to operate independently.
Currently imprating coaching mainly to beginners at Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) here, Parida is known to have groomed many young talents among whom Abhilipsa Rath’s name is notable.
With Parida securing ‘C’ grade in ITF Level-I course, the number of qualified tennis coaches in Orissa has gone up to five. Among the previous four, Subhransu Charan Sarangi, Ajay Nishank and Santosh Mallik have become ITF Level-II coaches, while Uttam Kumar Swain continues in ITF Level-I position.
