Tata Sports Complex unveiled in Keonjhar

A much-needed sports complex, set up by Tata Steel, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Sankarpur in Keonjhar district today. Christened as Dharanidhar Sports Complex, the stadium has been built over an area of 4.2 lakh square feet and at a cost of Rs 5 crore. The multi-discipline sports complex, features an indoor hall, galleries for 1,500 spectators and a 400 metre running track. The indoor hall includes a gymnasium, separate changing rooms for male and female, seats for 200 spectators and courts for badminton, basketball and volleyball. A portion of the gallery also has dormitory for sportspersons. The total built up area of the hall is 1,550 squre metres. Jamshedpur Utilities Services Company Ltd (JUSCO) designed and constructed the stadium, the foundation stone of which was laid by the Chief Minister on December 16, 2006. Tata Steel Managing Director H M Nerurkar, Urban Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra, Sports Minister Prabin Chandra Bhanjadeo, Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena, Tata Steel Vice-president Partha Sengupta and Keonjhar Collector Debjani Chakrabarti were present at the inaugural ceremony. ------------------------------------------------ PHOTO: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurates the Dharanidhar Sports Complex in Keonjhar on Dec 29, 2009.
