Goals galore in junior girls football Nationals

THE 8th Junior (U-19) Girls National Football Championship commenced amidist a goal delute as the first two matches produced 23 goals at Satyabrata Stadium in Cuttack today. Defending champions Manipur destroyed Rajasthan 18-0, while host Orissa trounced Madhya Pradesh 5-0. Another cluster match of the day between Bihar and Tamil Nadu ended in goalless draw. Priyanka Sahoo scored a brace for Orissa, while captain Manisha Panna, Rashmita Patra and Nilam Burh contributed one goal each. Orissa will play their next match against Delhi on November 28. The match between favourites Manipur and Rajasthan witnessed a goal deluge with Pramodini Devi and S Rina Roy Devi striking four times each. Among other goal-getters, Bina Devi netted thrice, N Thombi Devi, Y Premi Devi scored twice each and K Rameswari Devi, Bem Bem Devi, Basanti Devi struck once each. Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Barabati MLA Debasish Damantaray in the presence of Orissa Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera and former India woman football captain Sradhanjali Samantaray.
