K N Raju of East Coast Railway emerged men’s singles champion, defeating his Sambalpur railwaymate S Appa Rao 21-15, 21-17 in the finals of the 8th Baba Memorial All-Orissa Badminton Tournament at Nalco Indoor Hall in Bhubaneswar today.
Kamal Das and Girija Sankar Ray bagged the men’s doubles title, upsetting state champions K N Raju and S Appa Rao 21-19, 21-12 in the final. The veteran doubles crown went to S Sahoo and M Alam, who defeated KC Das and PKD Samant 21-12, 15-21, 21-16.
The three-day tournament was organised by Yuba Jyoti Club, under the auspices of Orissa State Badminton Association. Nalco Director Joy Vergese gave away the prizes at the closing function.
