Bhakti Kulkarni shatters Padmini Rout`s title hope

Goa Candidate Master Bhakti Kulkarni shattered Orissa Woman International Master Padmini Rout’s title hope by winning the crucial clash between the two in the seventh round of the 24th National Junior Girls Chess Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai today. With this defeat, top seed and Asian junior champion Padmini (5.5) slipped from second to third place notwithstanding her victory in sixth round earlier in the day. Sole leader Bhakti inched closer to the title with her seventh successive win. But Padmini’s statemate Aparajita Gochhikar put up much better performance in the day, winning the sixth and drawing the seventh round. Adyasha Patnaik, the third Orissa girl in the fray lost one and won the other. In the 39th edition of the National Junior Boys Championship being held simultaneously, Anwesh Upadhyaya proved to be the most successful among four Orissa players, posting two victories in the day.
