Nishant Biswal emerged champion in the 15th Orissa State Junior Snooker Meet at Cuesport Academy in Bhubaneswar today. Putting up a commanding performance in the final, fourth seed Nishant blanked second seed Saurya Prasad Pattnaik by 4-0 frames.
Niteen-year-old Nishant credited his maiden title triumph to his hard work, blessings of his parents, grand parents and the scolding of his coach and mentor Subrat Das.
‘‘I been working on my game for three to four hours daily with the goal to become Orissa No 1 and represent my state in the National championship. I am delighted that the efforts paid off,’’ said the gangling cueist from Cuttack.
Earlier in the semifinals, Nishant, A B Tech student of KIIT University, toppled top seed Kunal Agarwal 4-1, while Saurya outplayed giant-killer Asutosh Padhy by identical margin.
Both the finalist qualified for the Junior National Snooker Championship to be held at Agra from September 14. The State Senior Billiards Championship will commence tomorrow with six cueists in the fray.
