Padmini, Kiran triumph

Orissa Woman International Masters Padmini Rout and Kiran Manisha Mohanty made their second round defeats history by posting wins in the third round of the Leiden International Open Chess Tournament at Leiden in Holland on today. Asian Junior girls’ champion Padmini defeated Joop Bakker of the Netherlands, while Kiran got the better of Nicky Law. Both the Orissa teenagers now share the third place with two points each. Earlier in the second round, Padmini lost to Ukraine Grandmaster Andrey Vovk, while Kiran was beaten by Dutch Grandmaster John TH Van Der Wiel. In the fourth round, Padmini meets Jan Van Overdam (Netherlands) and Kiran faces Australia’s Aleksandar H Wohl.
