Ranjita Mahanta, who won gold in 100m sprint in the National Youth Championships in Madurai last month, will spearhead the girl’s challenge in the track and field events of the first Asian Youth Games starting in Singapore tomorrow.
India will be represented by 12 athletes, including six women. IS Mervin (400M hurdle), who won gold in Madurai, will lead the boys’ charge. Middle distance runner Namita Kabat is another Orissa girl, who has secured a place in the Indian squad.
Asian Youth Games Squad:
Boys: Ravi Kumar (800m): Rahul Kumar (1500m): IS Mervin (400m hurdles): NSK Logarsan (long jump): Arjun (discus): Rohit Kumar (Javelin).
Girls: Ranjita Mahanta (100m): Namita Kabat (800m): Pooja Varhade (1500m): P Adeena (100m hurdles): M Sushma (400m hurdles): MR Gunasundari (discus).
