Satyapragyan finishes 9th in Sydney Open

Orissa No 1 Swayangsu Satyapragyan finished ninth in the Sydney Open International Chess Tournament, which concluded at Paramatta Town Hall, Sydney, Australia on April 19, 2009. International Master Satyapragyan was part of the 14-member Indian team, which dominated the nine-round tournament, securing five of the top 10 places. He collected six points and received a cash prize of Aus $ 115. GM Abhijit Kunte was placed 3rd after he tied for the first place with three other players and shared the prize of Aus $10,000, scoring 7 points. GM Deepan Chakravaerty & IM Akshay Raj Kore tied for 5th to 8th place and received cash Prize of Aus $570 each. They scored 6.5 points each. IMs Saptarishi Roy Chaudhary occupied the 10th place with 6 points. WGM Esha Karwade and WGM Nisha Mohota were declared best women of the tournament and got cash prize of Aus $ 125 each with 6 points. Mohta also made her IM norm.
