Former champions Orissa trounced Punjab by 163 runs to finish third in the All-India BSNL Cricket Tournament, which concluded at Chandigarh today.
Northern Telecom Region (NTR), Delhi retained the title, defeating West Bengal in the final.
Orissa’s Paresh Patel was adjudged the best all-rounder of the tournament.
New recruit Tukuna Sahu emerged as the highest scorer for Orissa with a total of 321 runs, including a century.
Paresh Patel (312) and BBCC Mohapatra (307) also finished with 300 plus totals.
Three players from Orissa — Patel, Mohapatra and Niranjan Behera — were selected in the BSNL National team.
Brief scores: Orissa 284/7 in 40 overs (Tukuna Sahu 114, Paresh Patel 48, Niranjan Behera 43, BBCC Mohapatra 32) beat Punjab 121/10 in 30.3 overs (A Kakkad 59: Niranjan Bhera 3/14, Sanjay Satpathy 3/13, BCCC Mohapatra 2/20).
