Unique stamp to commemorate Test series

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of England`s First Test match Series in India, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) came together this week for the first time in issuing 1,000 commemorative covers, each having a unique stamp and a postmark to celebrate the special occasion. This was announced by Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya the CAB President, in Kolkata. The specially designed cover features the scorecard and the match day images from the second official Test Match in India and England that was played from 5 to 8 January 1934, the first at Eden Gardens. The photographs of the two captains of the match Col. C.K. Nayudu and Douglas Jardin feature on the limited edition stamp, which was cancelled with an MCC postmark earlier on 5 January in London, the day the match had started 75 years earlier. This day being the last day of the test match, the CAB released a colour print of the stamp. Each individually numbered cover in a presentation pack. This attempt at collaboration began with the CAB taking the initiative and the CAB President writing to the MCC President Derek Underwood in October, suggesting a series of proposed collaborations. The MCC Committee approved the plan in November and the unique memorabilia is a product of this initiative. MCC has its headquarters at Lord`s which is considered to be "The home of cricket". On the other hand, CAB has its headquarters at Eden Gardens, which has so far hosted 35 test matches, the highest in India. Born on 3rd February 1928, the CAB would be celebrating its 80th Foundation Day on the same day this year.
