Local favourite Dalbir Singh lived upto his reputation by emerging champion in the first CII Eastern Region Golf Tournament at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) course in Bhubaneswar today.
Dalbir, representing Royal Hotels, scored 30 points to win the main event (0-18 handicap) of the stableford tournament, which was organised by Confederation of Indian Industries, Eastern Zone.
The 18-hole tournament, featuring 42 competitors, was reduced to 14 holes as play started late due to fog.
Raj Sharma (20 points) of RE Rogers won the prize for the best gross, while Dulal Pany (27) of Enmark finished runner-up behind Dalbir. Ritwik Mohapatra won the 19 to 24 handicap event with 28 points, while Col Kashmir Singh (33) finished runner-up. Geeta Biswas of Posdata was adjudged the best lady golfer.
Real Estate Developers Association (REDA), comprising Anup Mohapatra, Tapan Mohanty, Satyajyoti Mohanty and Kailash Rath, took the team title with a total of 69 points. The runners-up prize with 66 points went to 120 Infantry Battalion, which was represented by Col Kashmir Singh, Lt Col D K Singhdeo and Col M Sasmal.
Urban Development Minister K V Singhdeo, CII Eastern Zone chairman Sandipan Chakravortty and CII Orissa president Santosh Kumar Mohapatra gave away the prizes at the closing function.
